How do couriers and postal workers deliver parcels to a Parcel Keep parcel box?

Parcels get delivered to Parcel Keep
  • Parcel Keep boxes have a special lock to which you can set your own 4 figure personal pin number.

  • When you order online you simply put the pin after your surname (e.g. Smith 1432) so it will appear on your waybill (also known as a shipping document). The delivery person* (courier/postal worker) should recognise this.

  • There is a sign outside your house pointing to the Parcel Keep box to also alert them.

  • So when the delivery worker arrives at your house they will easily find their way to your Parcel Keep Box.

  • There is an instruction label on the Parcel Keep box itself to remind the delivery worker how to access it.

  • They use the code on the waybill to open it and deliver your parcel(s).

  • They scan the unique bar code on the back of the door to confirm delivery.

  • They close the door and scramble the numbers to relock the door.

  • They put a delivered card through your letterbox to alert you.

  • When you get back, use your code to open the box and retrieve your parcel.

Ofcom rules demand that Royal Mail use parcel boxes (unless an exception applies)

They make their rounds easier, quicker, and more profitable for paid-on-delivery couriers.

Parcel boxes are defined by Ofcom as acceptable alternative delivery points.
If a postal worker does not use the Parcel Keep box first time, explain to them when you see them how it works. On the rare occasion that this continues reminding the Manager of your local sorting office in writing of Ofcom’s regulations always does the trick!
